On Wednesday, April 29, 2020 the Foundation welcomed First Draft to present Tackling Information Disorder, a webinar on navigating the complexities of online information disorder.

Led by Claire Wardle, U.S. Director of First Draft, the webinar presented the current state-of-play for disinformation as it relates to coronavirus reporting, broke down how conspiracy memes spread online, discussed the psychology of “holding on to our truth,” and shared tactics for debunking falsehoods.

The strategies of deliberate media manipulation are being used to spread division and hate online, and are a clear and present threat to marginalized communities. The need to identify media manipulation was already urgent this year, in light of the current election season and the 2020 Census. The experience of the nationwide pandemic has made it only more critical that all citizens are aware and engaged as they navigate the information overload taking place right now.

Tackling Information Disorder was recorded and is a must-watch for any concerned citizen who wants to better understand, identify, and counteract online disinformation.
